i heard a comment today from a newtek chap that amd athlon 64 chip can render out hypervoxels 15 times faster than a dual xeon p4 workstation...

is there anyone out there who can test this out?

also how does a apple G5 compare with hypervoxel rendering scenes??

Was that with 32 or 64 bit Windows?

32 bit windows apparently....

anyone care to test this on some benchmark lw hypervoxel scenes?

I'll test. I'm on my new AMD64 notebook right now.

I don't know about that much faster but I rendered similar frames on an AMD and P4 (the P4 is a 2.4Ghz 1Gb and the AMD is an old Socket A 3000+ 512Mb and the AMD was probably about 200% faster at rendering HVs if I remember rightly...faster than you'd think for that. It wasn't much faster at standard rendering though, but I had the RAM underclocked for stability (never buy cheap RAM ;) ).

From what I've heard elsewhere AMD chips are better at Hypervoxels for some reason, but slightly slower at normal raytracing. Things could be different these days of course :)
