i have a string and hook rigged up with 16 bones, 15 for the string, and one bone for the hook on the end. what i am trying to do is stretch the first bone at the top of the string so that the child bones stretch as well, and the string appears to extend. this works, only that the hook becomes stretched too. to try to prevent this, ive locked all the scale channels in the scene editor for the hook bone, but the hook and bone still stretches. if it makes any difference my object is rigged with the IK booster tool.
anyone have any ideas what im doing wrong, or something else i could be doing to acheive this effect please help.

thanks,
sean

What you need is a bone between your stretching bone and your hook bone which has an expression on which looks like this

1/[Null.Parentbone.Scale.Z]

Apply this expression to the z scale of your compensator bone, and it should remain the right size as your parent bone scales in the z, and the rest of the chain beneath it should remain the same size as well.
