Hello All!

A programmer colleague of mine has asked me to give you the heads up about the Collada organisation, site here:-

http://collada.org/public_forum/welcome.php

that is dedicated to developing a be-all-and-end-all-file exchange format for interactive 3D apps. Max, Maya and XSI are collaborating. Newtek has yet to join the endeavour. Whether this displays second sight or short-sightedness I`m not qualified to say, but thought it worth throwing this to the crowd to see what you all make of it.

To get on the private forum Newtek would need to contact Mark Barnes at
[email protected]

Cheers,

Rory

hmm... is this related to the mysterious 3dif format http://www.3dif.org/ - I was able to sign up for an account in the forums there, but that account won't let me log on... even though I can get it to keep sending me passwords.. I know that microsoft is working with some 3d company on some cross compatable format too... I can't remember the name of that company though... read about it in a free industry mag the other day... that mag got trashed because there was not much info in it but this little tidbit...

Taken from their FAQ (http://collada.org/public_forum/viewtopic.php?t=36)

What is Collada?

COLLADA stands for COLLAborative Design Activity.

It is a project initiated by Sony Computer Entertainment to create a flexible Digital Asset Exchange format.

It is the first time that major digital content creation tool companies, such as Alias, Discreet and Softimage are working together with other companies and studios to create a standard interchange format to simplify content creation and to empower developers.

Right! Which all sounds like a really good idea, begging the question, why hasn`t Newtek got on board yet?
