From this thread (http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread.php?t=31894):

Barefeats has posted a few tests with the X800 (http://www.barefeats.com/radx800.html). Only non-game is Motion (render RAM preview), unfortunately, but look at the FSAA test in Halo! Holy hell! Twice as fast as the 6800!

Well, I've been using an X800 XT with the latest ATI drivers, and sadly I can detect no increase in performance with either Layout or Modeller. For Layout I was running the HumVee scene and timing how long it took to run the 200 frames - I got the same figure (within tenths of second) with my ATI 9800 and the X800. The test in Modeller was rotating a huge, sub-patched model - again, I could perceive no real increase in speed or repsonse, althouh the screen draw is clean and glitch-free.

I'm assuming the bottleneck is at the CPU level, and the card is simply drawing the data as fast as it can get it.

Does anyone have any other ideas for tests it might be worth doing?

I wonder if anyone at NT could comment on this - will they be adding new OpenGL calls or anything to make use of this new generation of cards?

(It's ironic that people have been complaining/asking for Pro-level cards for ages and we get this new 256MB card and I can't see any darn difference...)

Is this the X800 on the Mac? Are they shipping yet?

Yes, it's a pre-pro X800 XT, but the same hardware as a full retail version. It's a press-supplied unit for review in a Mac magazine. Lovely card, very quiet - but I'm amazed it seems to do nothing for LW... (great for games, though).

Coolness. My experience with the 6800 has been really good so far. The impression I get with Ligthwave is that it's not a heck of a lot faster, though I can now open models with really highres textures and get great update speeds. Still, I'm thinking of trading it in for the ATI.. I play a lot of Halo and hear the X800 cleans up with that game!
