View Full Version : Abstract Tunnel Dash

This is an enlarged still from an animation.

What I did was:
a) Creat a tunnel with the surface inside.
b) Add black fog to fade out the extreme distance.
c) Apply a texture - in this case a gradient applied to one of the IFW2 patterns. Stretching it along the tunnel is effective in emphasizing distance. You want something ith structure at many scales. 100% luminosity, 0% diffuse.
d) Move the texture rapidly towards the camera.
e) So the pattern shifts as it approaches, add a slow sideways offset to the texture motion.

If you want a bt of symettry, add a couple of mirrors at 60 degrees to the centre of the tunnel, as in a kaliedoscope, and rotate them slowly.

I really like doing this stuff, and its very easy to change patterns and colours for a new one... :D

So where's the anim?!?! Don't leave us hanging with a fantastic still!

OK, I'll knock out a highly compressed Divx run tonight for you!

Incidentally this sort of thing is really easy and very effective - I started off by applying patterns to two flat plates, to get effects like the '2001' star warp journey.

OK, here's a clip from the anim, DivX encoded, 1.2 Mb, PAL resolution.

That's cool! It reminds me a lot of the Dr. Who opening. :)

Thanks! I take that as a great compliment!

Seriously, give it a go, its very easy and renders very fast!
