View Full Version : Electricity Tutorial (Newtek) doesn't work for me

The tutorial at ftp://ftp.newtek.com/pub/LightWave/Tutorials/Vidz/electric_CD.mov is a nice way to make lightning, but it doesn't work for me. I carefully followed along with the movie, but when I get to the part of adding the null object as the Reference Object to the Displacement Map, the tutorial falls apart. When I return to Layout and move the Null object, the 2 point poly should move like a lightning bolt, Instead it stays stationary. Everything is fine up to that point. Am I missing something, or is the tutorial missing something?

You won't see it move in real time, I believe.
Try setting some keyframes of the null, and then play a preview.

I just ran a test, and that is correct. Just moving the null will not show the deformation in real time. This is true for all geometric deformation.

It worked (would have been nice to mention it in the tute). Thank you very much.

You need to have Autokey enabled to see it "realtime".

wow..I can't even get my little line to deform to the texture..

I think I"m beginning with a "2-point poly chain" but I'm not sure..

this is a pretty simple tute to misunderstand!
