Raytrace scene on dual 2.5 Ghz G5 with 4.5 gigs RAM, OS X 10.3.7, nVidia 6800 Ultra, Lightwave 8.0.1, 8 threads:

The only thing I can think of is 10.3.7 made Lightwave faster.

That is pretty fast. I just rendered this with a Dual 3.02 Xeon using the default settings and it took about 55 seconds.

huh...that scene gives me a time of 1 min, 16 sec! wonder why my time would be twice that when my machine is a Dual 2Ghz G5? I can see why a dual 2.5 would be fastER, but not 2x as fast.

varying multi-threading also makes a difference. I too,
run LW8 on a dual gig G5, OSX.3.3.

2 threads- 1m 12s
4 threads- 1m 5s
8 threads- 1m 15s

Go figure!

49s on mine... http://www.blanos.com/benchmark/

Might be a setting on my machine. I don't do enough LW right now that a 10% hit will kill me though I am curious as to why the difference.
All specs seem the same, wonder if it has to do with the motherboard or some other setting in LW.

Dual 2GHz, 1.2GB RAM.

Raytrace: 60.3 seconds. At least three seconds faster than before.
Tracer-Radiosity: 364.2 seconds. 16 seconds faster.
Radiosity_ReflectiveThings: 27.6 seconds. 2.4 seconds faster.

Roughly a 5-8 percent speed-up, just for updating the OS. Fine by me :-)
