I need help Like the tittle says.

A Client told me he needs the book to open up in the middle and the page flipping rapidly.

The book is a tick book with a hard cover. I've tried multiple tectnique and am exsausted. Im losing my mind. Can someone please help. im using lightwave 8

I found this:

i've created 5 vertical spline and created a hierarhy.then i parented the page and use metalink but it doesn't work (am i doing this right?). so i use bones instead and it works but the deformation is ugly and not smooth.how do i make it smooth?
i've reduce the weight influence but im getting some funky result. Is there another way? my deadline is looming please help :S

I've finally fixed the bone smoothing but what do i have to do to repeat the motion.i've use the repeat cnstant in the graph editor but im getting some wierd result......please help.the client is holding a gun to my head

If I were you I would use endmorphs because it is easy and gives you the desired results and you are able to reset the object and have it repeat.

I rendered out a test with endmorphs. This took me no longer then 15 min

This tutorial could give some pointers.

Hi Guys!

I need to animate books with turning pages (ie pages turned by animated people). Since the last post here was 2003 I figured that the state of the art has moved on somewhat in 9 years - additionally some of the links here are dead, or at least, no longer point where they used to.

Can anybody advise me on how to go about this project? At the moment I'm in the modelling phase so immediate advise on how to set the model up for later animation would be useful.

One caveat - I'm currently using Lightwave 9.5. I hope to upgrade come animation time but right now I have to stick with 9.5 therefore modelling advice should be 9.5 compatible, but animation advice can make use of more advanced features in LW11 etc if appropriate.

Thanx, in advance, for the advice.

Kind Regards

This is a popular method.

There are a few things to consider. But if it were me I'd likely just build a rig for it with bones. This would give the most control. From there it is just a matter of ingenuity. You could conceivably build a rig that would allow you to grab a corner of the page and then have that drive the rotation of a master bone which would have the other parts of the rig that hold the page shape (bending etc) parented to it. This is of course purely theoretical but based on other rigging experience. It would take experimentation and trial and error but that is where I'd start.

I have animated a few animations with book pages flipping turning etc. With a hardcover book I use bones for the covers and splinecontrol for the pages. Splinecontrol gives good control, however that control comes from modifying the key frames in the graph editor. Try and keep the control points of the spline to a minimum to keep page flips smooth and not unwieldy.

Flying book animation starts at 33secs and ends at 47sec. I used Bones mainly with Splinecontrol.

Book animation with page flips. Page flips starts at 59secs. Splinecontrol 100% to animate the pages.

You can add morphs for the page corners etc to add further realism.

Hope this helps.

How do I best model the pages? Is it a double-sided surface or do I box-model each one to a fraction of a millimetre?

How would I rig each page? A rig for each individual page? How many bones and how do I arrange them - in a grid? Radiating from the spine?

Kind Regards

I should probably add that I have a number of years experience messing about with "Modeler" but very little animation experience. Also that I plan to create detailing in the model using ZBrush having initially created a "primitive" (ie a low-poly model) in LW.

I'm using this pipeline because I'm familiar with LWs tools and just starting to learn ZBrush and I'm not sure how to get started in ZBrush, so I'm "getting the ball rolling" with the tools that I know!

Use double sided. Making the pages have thickness will give you problems with the mesh intersecting when you bend the page.

Here is how to model the page as well as a spline control and bones example:

The bones example is quite simple but along the lines of what you are looking to do. More complex if you want to drive the bones from the tip say from a finger.

Also a solution for having 2 surfaces. One on the front and one for the back of the page.

Thank you for the advice.
