Hi guys. I'm about to buy a new G5 dual 2.5 gig machine and need some input on which video card I should buy. I will probably never use a 30 inch monitor. How does the Radeon 9800 pro special edition compare to the 6800 ultra card? Are there anyother options?

Here are a couple of links to check out:

I read up on the card before I bought one... I got a tip from my local Apple store that buying the 6800GT is a better deal because they're having trouble building Ultra boards. The GT is the exact same card, only 50Mhz slower than the Ultra.

Hello there,
I have the new G5 2.5 with the ati radeon 9600 card. When it comes to Lightwave the card is is awkward in open GL view and is sometimes sloppy. I also have the next lower card down and did not notice too much of a change in comparison within Lightwave. Which may seem strange becausae when you see the new speck which seems to be twice the previous card was in the G5.

The other unfortunate thing is that there is not a lot of variety out there for graphics cards for the MAC, which always seems strange to me since PCI slots was ment to help with this issue, I thought and that was years ago.
