I'm needing to produce quite a few photo realistic renderings of fine jewelry, mostly imported from my CAD program. I'm having a heck of a time getting the set up right to produce real looking jewelry. Can anyone point me to some tutorials or other help?

You need F-Prime. It will make your life a lot simpler.

Post pictures of what you have so far so we can give you specific feedback.

Rendering jewlery encompasses quite a decent knowledge of the physics of rendering.

A good hint to start from is to investigate Refraction properties for glass / diamon and so forth. Caustics and Reflection for metals, and studio lighting for the setup.

What helps with me to get the shimmers back in the jewlery is to hang up a few large white polygons out of view, with 500% luminosity... Helps : )

Ahem, apart from switching to another renderer (which would really be the simplest solution) you should consider some plugins:

G2 - would save you from that crappy air polygons plus gives you SSS (not so good one, though, but even a sapphire doesn't glow that deeply, so it should do)

Spectrum - definitely a must if you want correct chromatic abberation.
