View Full Version : Motion Plugin? like Maya Set Driven Key

Hi,

Ive not posted to this forum in about 5 years so please excuse me if this is
now part of Layout (great if it is:):) ) anyway....

Ive got a bone rig in layout whereby I want the actions of one bone to make
another bone in the hierarchy do something else. ie its actions make another
bone react.

Put simply if 'Bone A' rotates in H, it makes 'Bone B' scale about
about Z.

I know you can keyframe an action like this in Maya, and I think theyre
called 'set driven keys'. So my question is there a motion plugin in Layout 8
that does this thats bundled with Lightwave or is there a plugin I can buy
to replicate this ?

I seem to remember Worley Labs Polk collection did something similar when I
keyed up a Terminator model I did in 1998. But since a lot of tools that
were once plugins are now part of Lightwave I wondered if it was now
possible.

Forgive me if this is now trivial, but Ive not used Layout for years! :)
only modeller. Is Chuck Baker still here?

Thanks for any help

James Hans

hi there

perhaps you mean Channel follower? page 322 of the LW8 pdf manual You'd have to check it out to see if it does what you want.

checking it now! Ive been using follower for other simpler motions, but its because I need to mix rotation channels with scaling channels if that makes sense. A scale needs to control the movement of another object.

Thanks btw :) Its a saturday and im thinking about work on a weekend :(

Found it... now how to use it and find it! :D

Ok, got it working. The scale of a bone in Z is making a bone of another object move down the Z.

This is great...but it does show it in realtime in the Layout:(

I was hoping for dynamic update where im scaling that bone and the resultant object moves with it :(

Any ideas?

I believe there is even another actually called set driven key.

I meant I am actually using the set driven key in Layout graph editor. It just doesnt update in realtime as a preview. You actually have to keyframe a movement to see it effecting the other object.

Found using channel follower is simpler. Although theres still no realtime preview.

I have to keyframe an action to show it following :(

with almost all motion plugins in Layout you have to activate auto key if you want to have realtime preview.

Autokey was on! still only keyframed playback works. No realtime update :(

`Follower`motion modifier plugin real time updates, without Autokey on, and can make any position, rotation or scale channel follow any other P, R, S channel, with time lag if you want it. Set the channels you want the following channels to lead, then set all the others to `none` and you`re away!

Cheers,
