Hey, all.

Is there an efficient method for rendering individual passes of a LightWave (QuickTime or AVI) animation so that I can composite the diffuse, reflection and alpha channels of specified LightWave objects for use in After Effects?

In the Knoll Light Factory manual, John Knoll wrote, "Most of the tutorials included here are a combination of Electric Image and After Effects work - the elements were rendered in EI, then brought into AE for compositing. By having the individual layers available for tweaking in After Effects, you afford yourself much greater control over the composite, and can make subtle changes without the need for time-consuming re-rendering inside a 3D application."

You can't render passes to animations. You always have to use images. This way you can use several plugins on the image filters tab to save all your buffers.

For Knoll you could use different special buffer IDs to get multiple track points at a time. Also if you replace your lights with nulls and assign them a surface type Hypervoxel you can easily create tracking points. If you make sure those markers are not larger than 1 pixel you may even use Knoll spectacular to handle multiple flares at a time.

Compositing is so nice.... :-D .

Thanks for your help. I forgot that you can import image sequences for use in After Effects and export them later as a QuickTime movie.
