View Full Version : bad magic number?

anybody else seeing this?
path:greenCard.tga: Not a TIFF file, bad magic number 0 (0x0).

I feel like yelling no crap! of course its not a tiff file! its a tga file!
but it happens with every tga file in a 7.5 scene file I've opened up in lw8.01 and it is screwing up LW completely.

anyone know the fix, workaround? or should i call tech support?

Hey Eblu!
This is really odd.
That is the kind of error you would get when the begining few bytes of a file do not make sense to the program... there is a 'magic number' that identifies certain filetypes ... and if the extension says one type (.tga) but the file is another (.gif) then it can get confused, for example
Please try to delete all your configs. Should this not work, then try to reinstall LW.
Might be that something went wrong during the update.
Scott also suggested that you check whether there is something wrong with your Quicktime plugin.
Hope that helps

thanks elmar,
been doing the config shuffle for a while now. Screamernet issues.
and the problem has been pretty steady. as far as i can tell, it only happens with LW7.5 scene files though, which is very weird.

I'm probably going to try to work through it for now, re-intsalling is just not in the cards today.

how exactly does one check to see if something is wrong with the quicktime plugin?
