How did you build all the cubes?

Im guessing using a cloud of particles then assigning a cube to each particle... Looks pretty funky!

:D Thats well smart. I like it when i'm bored on sundays, want to make myself a new background, but stumble across someone elses who has made one a million times better than i could! cheers for that! :)

thanks,
I started with just a few boxes placed manually randomly..
(just copy and move...)
then decided to put more so i just continued adding more cubes randomly,
(I just counted there are 228 cubes in 1 object file..)
then in the layout I cloned it and parented to nulls then cloned even more..
there is now 241 "cubes object" so 54 948 cubes total :)
but you probably see half of them...
there are only 329688 polygons but because I put montecarlo radiosity with nice settings, it took a little bit longer that I expected to render...

from dblanky : "Im guessing using a cloud of particles then assigning a cube to each particle"

yes that would have been the best way.. but I did not think I was going to
finish it....the clone and move tools was enough for a saturday morning :)
I was trying to wake up...

Looks great, I like the fx. I have a pet-hate though with logos in an image. call me picky :) I know lots of people do it, but I could never understand why.

for the same un-understandable reason people tatoo harley-davidson on their one and only body. interesting story, back in the '80's when harley was about to go under, willie g. davidson said that that sort of brand loyalty is what seperates harley from, say, levi jeans. who has levis tatooed on their arm? so he took that loyalty, added clever design flowing from that loyalty, and multiplied it into a successful company and a brand name worth untold billions. the moral being, lw posses a brand loyalty that nt could similarly leverage, with clever and functional design, into a product/brand that rather dominates an industry.

share that at your next cocktail party

cool image btw. my desktop has the lw logo as well

LOL

It could work well as a background for a character shot.

Hey Matt, that's not a *real* tattoo is it?!

If it is, I take it you didn't get the number 8 done as well because it would be redundant when version 9 comes out...

Adrian.
