Try a program called deep exploration
Your max mesh has to be editable poly, then open deep exloratio search your max file in the browser, right click on it and then choose convert/lightwave object.

You mas have to install manually a max plugin so deep exploration can do this.

hope this helps

try a FREE lw plugin called MERGE TRIGON X.... it specifically goes through a mesh and tries to turn all tris into quads. look it up on flay.com

Flay says it's good through 7.5, but the webpage actually only says its good through 7.0b. Anyone using this with 8?

I use DXF's to convert max files to Lightwave, they hold triangles and quads. I found a plug-in once called untripple that did a great job with 3ds files, but I'm having trouble remembering whare the heck I found it! I'll see if I can send you a link as soon as I can find it.

Ok here you are, more of a pain in the butt than I remembered. :D

TB Untriple

TB's plug-ins are absolutely wonderful (in my book anyway) but the site is all Japanese so you might want to use a translation utility. You also need to uncompress them from there .lzh format. Itís actually not that big a deal, .lzh files corresponds to LHA witch is a Japanese zip like tool, and its quite easy to use if your not afraid of your DOS prompt.

Finally I wanted to make a note of this plug as well. I can not remember what DXF format 3D Max exports but LW can only bring in standard DXF files. A large number of programs export DXF 2 files. I know for a fact that Blender exports DXF 2 files and when you try and bring them in to Lightwave you just get a blank file. This importer will fix this for you. Free of course.

DXF 2 import plug-in from D-Storm

I hope one of these will be helpful for you.

Just a note that has absolutely nothing to do with this thread but I can't stand not to mention, since I have first used TB edge I have used it on every project I have ever worked on from that time. Well worth the trouble.

Thanks Moosedog. Appreciate the feedback. I just hate to add something unless it works. I've lost too many models and projects because something's supposed to work with it.
