So it seems a NZ dealer was the first to inform about this, even before NewTek.

"The 64-bit version of LightWave 3D will be available for sale when the
64-bit Windows Operating System is commercially available."

When this is going to happen? 2006?

Well at least we know it's happening, which is good news in anyone's book! :D

While talking to my computer tech about a new 64-bit system today, he mentioned that the 64-bit Windows XP OS should be available the first quarter of next year. But, you know how that goes. So, I neither confirm nor deny.

A 64-bit Lightwave sound great. Go NewTek!

like some one wrote at the cgtalk thread.

"but Linux is 64 bit today ... why wait for Microsoft?"

64 bit Lightwave? I thought we had one back when Lightwave was still available for Alpha and SGI Irix?

A microsoft rep told me back in June that it was to be released along with service pack 2...guess we wont know the true answer until it hits the shelves. :D

Cheers.

Just like Titus... then I'm banging my head against the screen... indeed! :D

Peter... just guessing... hoping we'll have also a 32bit version for everyone who have to stay with old tech!

Mac G5 is 64-bit and the new version of OSX (Tiger) will be much more 64-bit compliant. Where's the 64-bit mac version? No need to wait for intel on that...

LW 32bit future versions confirmed by Elmar Moelzer (thanks for the info)!

[Edit: Sorry for the double-post! ;)]

The current OSX doesn't allow for 64bit apps, this is a feature of Tiger (check the info at Apple for that). I guess by the time Tiger is out, NT will have a version of LW for that as well.
