Is there a function that would allow me to disable displacement on multiple objects at the same time for animating (and enabled for rendering) ? Looked around the scene editor and couldn't find anything that seemed to fit.

Select your objects, then Setup>General>More>Disable Defomations.

Don't ask me why it's there :)

Thanks Dodgy, just tried it. Only snag is it disables all deformations - including bones. I was hoping for a way to disable displacement plugins added to the objects and keep the bone deformations.

The biggest slowdown is from bone deformations. I usually just use a standin character that is chopped up and each piece is parented to a bone. When I animate I turn off the subpatch character and make it invisible and at the same time make the chopped up character visible. All deformations are also turned off. This speeds things up tremendously. I also have a button that I created to do the opposite so I can check deformations at any time. :)
