View Full Version : Cloud effects?

Hi all,

Its another person working on a fantasy film, I'm trying to find a way to create a good looking dark, sinister, dramatic sky which I can animate to include identifiable shapes. I'm about to start on some tests for the shot and was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for how to go about it.

I've got LW8, DFX+ (version from the LW upgrade offer), Aura DV Paint, Painter and Paint Shop Pro at my disposal.

Hi JulianW,
My take on this would be a sky dome with a hibred of photographic sky and painted " identifiable shapes" what ever they maybe?
Then you can animate the texture and how about using the grid warp tool with DFX to get some intresting things going on after you've rendered out you image from lightwave?

OR you can play with particles and HV's but you will get a massive hit on render time

Check out the link in the thread "realistic clouds" in the tips & tricks forum.

There is a plugin OGO_Taiki:

which might be what you're looking for....

Thanks for the link, unfortunately it sounds like the render times would become too long using OGO_Taiki so I'm going to try doing it all in LW to start with. Those are some really nice looking clouds coming out of that plug-in though.

I'll post some renders once I get something sorted.

Ok, this probably is not much help because itís not volumetric, but this is the best cloud painting tutorial I have yet to run across. I found it very useful for my scenes. Itís a lot of work to paint everything from scratch though.
