Yes it does....... my dealer Blaine at Video Hardware Systems just spec'd me out a system with the 7505. Killer........

Check with him before you buy

So where do we stand on Rambus. Can we get the performance needed with DDR now. Most of the new MBs that seem to be recommended now-a-days are based on DDR and not Rambus.

The 7505/DDR solutions work splendidly. DDR's not that expensive, so buy twice as much ;)

How many streams real time can be attained? I need at least 3 at times and from my understanding the pipe in DDR can't handle that. Or am I mistaken?

The 7505 uses a dual channel memory system plus it has a 533 MHz memory speed versus the 400 MHz of the original Xeon with Rambus memory. In one bench test I read on one 7500/7505 motherboard, the dual channel DDR was faster than Rambus on reads, but slower on writes. I have used my 7505 based SuperMicro X5DA8 to simultaneously run 3 DDRs into the Switcher and do cut and effects among the DDRs. This was not a test to determine the maximum number, just something I needed. I have also stacked up 3 DV clips in TEd with an effect between two clips with the third clip overlaying them with no problems. However, this was only a short project, but the clips were on a three drive ATA RAID-0, not my faster SCSI RAID. The ATA RAID scored 70MB/sec on the VT2 Autoconfig, whereas the SCSI RAID does 225 MB/Sec.

I'd be surprised if 6 or 7 weren't possible.

You will get 4-5 streams with (4) 10K Seagate drives U320

3-4 with WD IDE and 3ware (NOT SATA)

e7505 works like a clock. Stay away from Tyan, the worst of the bunch.

I-Will and SuperMicro are good.

Brian, the Dual Channel DDR's pipe is 25% faster than the i860, memory bandwidth-4.3GB per second-but writes are currently a bit slower.

Synergy III should work OK, it is an older card, as long as it's AGP4X (which the Quadro 2 MXR is), because AGP 2X cards do not work I think. And make sure you stick with the current rev of the drivers.
