it's not just what I want, but what most archi users want.
just look into architectural threads, you will see

lightwave 8 had a lot of features for animating purposes only,

I want newtek to know what archi users want in Lightwave's next version.
and those features could also help animators too

Fprime "tsunami" (render everything LW renders).

This just has to be Number 1 since it would require a full/major overhaul of the SDK to implement which would have a huge, beneficial knock-on effect for all the other third party plug-in writers :)

Hey i voted for quite all the options u made dude!! some points though.

these are options for architectural and more. my preferred item would be real instances in modeler to change multiple things on the fly.

real archi lights would be great too.

i liked also the Fprime tsunami. surely it would be fantastic, if fprime would be fully integrated in Lw, to be visible in all layout viewports, and be able to render all things lw current engine renders, plus a great screamernet like Worley stated, and also not have the current problems with shaders. :D

mmm… I did not, just voted for 4 of them but that make me think
the pool could appear not very "serious" because of this…
A pool forcing people to choose only ONE vote (maybe 2)
would I guess help to see what really most of users need,
because in the absolute if you're ask what you want and
are able to answer "everything" then we all should check all
options without reading them could'nt we ?

yeah I know, I wanted to do 4-5 choices maximum but when I created the poll
I did not see any options for that, it was 1 choice or multiple choices only..

I just want to show newtek there are archi users in the lightwave community,
and it would be cool if in the future version, there be a little more features that
both archi and other users can benefit..

I admit I gave up with that myself and wonder WHEN
they will take us a bit in count if one day they do…
I spend much money 3 months ago to build a render farm
and now just realize that if of course it's much faster
around 15% of the time is wasted because of LWSN
bugs and crashes !!!!

I am surpised thats you don't put N-Gons on your list feature. N-Gons is an important for any modeling.

Would you mind helping increasing my knowledge :
what do you call "N-gons" ?
For what I know (but that must be uncomplete)
they are the base of modeling in softs like C4D for example,
and since I made serious tests with it I just conclude in one thing ;
this soft is just unable to make a boolean without creating
tens of unusefull crappy points and triangles…
Is that N-gons ?

An N-Gon is nothing more than a polygon with an undetermined amount of points. N just just refers to an unknown number. So, a 1 point poly is an N-Gon, a 26 point poly is an N-Gon, or a 5 point poly is an N-Gon.

Usually, when people request support for N-Gons, they mean, subdivision surfaces support for N-Gons (i.e, polys with more than 3 or 4 points).

There's no option in that poll for "None of any of the features in this list." =]

I'm an animator (specifically games) and LW is still a far cry from where I'd prefer it to be for character work. Rendering, and almost anything related to it is useless to me right now. I really could care less if this area went untouched for another 2 releases if it meant getting more "useful" upgrades.

Hrmmm...seems a little shortsighted if you ask me.

1. What about a properly working .PSD exporter?
2. A Digital Fusion/After Effects/Combustion/Shake project file exporter (Lights, buffers and camera data are exported properly ya know)?
3. Occulusion Pass built in to the render Passes?
4. Faster IKBoost on OSX (I think the devs know what I am talking about)?
5. Cacheable GI routines?
6. Parametric Spline tools (imagine reorientating your Magic Bevel action 2 hours later)?
7. Bucket rendering?
8. Nondestructive Parameters/Effects?
9. Integrated Modeling/Animation?
10. SubDee nGon support?
11. True Displacement Support without a 3rd Party dev plugin (he isn't getting paid to innovate ya know)?
12. Faster OpenGL (you see XSI? Make LW faster or at least as fast).
13. Working .RLA and .RPF Z-Depth exporters (standards baby...standards).
14. Integrated Dope Sheet and Dope Track (who smoked dope to make these two tools anyway?)
15. Stability stability stability...

It ain't much to ask for ya know...guess I should send these in to [email protected] huh? Oh wait...I did 2 years ago. :eek:

I'd settle for a more open SDK. I like LW for what it is, but I wouldn't mind if 3rd party plugins did more of the focus work.

It's really hard to make a UI/featureset that'll be everything to everybody in this case. Let LW be the foundation and build the parts you need into it. That sorta make sense? I'd love to have alternative renderers for LW, just as an example.

if I turn off "extra raytrace optimization" , it starts faster but the overall render
takes more time. So no I should not turn it off

I was saying that it should be faster to optimize. or find another way to optimize..
I don't know, something to make it faster.
this is not one of the most critical thing, but it is still important for people who create big scenes like most archi guys.

Why do most people want fprime tsunami??
Is it THAT good? I mean, I don't have it or anything, but from what I've heard...

What we really need is faster "everything" (specially rendering), actually :)
Oh, and linux support...

Fprime is really good,
I personnally save a LOT of time when lighting or texturing a scene..
but it is limited, it doesn't render volumetrics,shaders...
the "tsunami" version would be more advanced and render everything LW can..
and hopefully the future Fprime would also be network capable

i love to have Schematic view improved, just a little minor stuff like:

to be able to:
- make visible / invisible the object
- lock the object
- change the colour with multiple obj or layers selected,
- quick setting for: unseen by (rays, camera, unaffected by fog), (self, cast, receive) shadow and many more i can't think of by now.

make this view really productive and fun to work, make it faster...

vote for render improvement ( Netrender, PSD/RLA/RRF, Comp, Occlusion, Cacheable GI, Bucket, True Displace, Tsunami, baking, noise reduction, etc...) Policarpo is so true.
and that looks good for archi too....

i thought this thread was about LIGHTWAVE features.
And, watching the vote result, everybody 's asking for a plug ! i don't understand that.

interactivity, bug fixed, stability and useful SDK is the priorities number one for me
Why ? Because it's possible to do. i think Lightwave is a good soft but unfinished.

- Better Antialiasing + Antaliasing per Object
- Better Depth of Field
- Lights revamp: Photometrich, single/double sided true Area Lights
- Caustics values per Light

Just a 0.0000001 cent. ;)
