View Full Version : Who's rigging in 8?

Ok, I'm baffled by 8. All these bone tools look cool and I watch various tutorials and it all looks so easy and then every time I do something like use Tip Move and then hit <space> most of the bones disapear. They're apparently still there, but I can't see them.
Am I doing something wrong? Is this some Mac 8 bug? Who's rigging in 8 on a Mac? :confused:

btw, I'm using the new 8.0.1

I quit and reloaded. Things seem to be ok so far.

I've modified a rig in 8 which I created in 7.5. Apparently the mac version of bone tools is incorrect, at least according to a reply to a previous post of mine.. Some things work, some don't. They are supposed to be on the list of things to do... I think...

Oh, I see. Could you point me to that thread?

I've put off doing anything in 8 until this recent patch came out. I thought everything was pretty much ok in Layout now.

oh.. and btw, I am not using 8.01 yet because it does not yet support the Torque DTS exporter.. where as 8 does...

I suppose you could have a copy of 8 and 8.0.1 on your drive, but you'd have to change the cmdlines and move the prefs to separate, specific folders so they don't overwrite one another. Don't know if an 8 will load an 8.0.1 scene.
I guess it's not worth it if things are still not right.

Thanks for the Torque reference. Gaming is another thing on my list of "I don't know much about that in Lightwave".

Ok, so far everything is still working.
I have to say, I'm REALLY digging the bone tools. Nice way to see if things are set up right.
turn on bones
check out deformations
turn bones off
tip move or draw bone or draw child bone or split bone

I did a quick rig using the IK Boost tool and am loving it. I laid out the bones really fast, applied the tool, set some limits and have a very functional rig really quickly. Very powerful plugin, and very easy to use. I haven't done any serious animating with it yet, but the set up is a breeze.

What kind of character (ie.- high detail or more cartoonish)?

It was a simple human model. Not cartoony, and without weight mapping. mostly I was testing out the plugin.
