View Full Version : Hot Distortion Engine Exhaust Tips??

i'm trying to do a scene with a hovering robot thing and would like to attempt doing some sort of hot exhaust distorted jetwash effect. has anyone ever done anything of the sort in LW and can recommend a way to get started? i tried a couple of ways with displacement on a grid with a refraction index and have barely scratched the surface on HVs. dont know much about them at all.

any recommendations on how to get started or any links to a tutorial maybe? thanks in advance if you can help.

He has a tut with video example of this kind of hot-air distortion coming out of a pipe on the roof of a building. I think he uses some post production but the results are awsome.

thanks Riki! i was actually hoping to do this in post.. i own AE 5.5 might as well use it!

and i just watched it.. nice. i never imagined he'd use a render of particles in 3D to displace something in 2D.

i'll post my results in the finished section as soon as i have something worth showing ;)
