Now there's the million dollar question...! :)

Hmm, I hope you really mean that it's the $595 (US) question. :(
I'm all for supporting NewTek, but ...............

I don't even think NewTek can say for sure.
I'm guessing about Juneish. (That gives me about a month on either side!) :p

This is a paraphrase mind you, "All software should be shipping in two weeks."

Who said that?

...should I be busy getting a sinking feeling that VT[3] is going to turn out to be vapor-ware ???

ted

Don't worry, it'll be there. I just wouldn't hold off on any projects until it's released.

I don't see any danger that T[3] won't be out, but as always, you should NEVER bet on new software for real work till it is out.

My educated guess would be mid-summer for T[3].

All you guys are kidding, right?

Let's see, Newtek has made an announcement that T[3] will be shown at NAB...... we've all seen the big splash, screen captures and itemized features on the web site.........

With all the hoo-rah, press and discussion, Newtek would look pretty foolish if they didn't ship in VERY close proximity to NAB.

JMHO, but I think they've learned their vaporware lessons years ago.

Look for it soon......

I remember seing a post from Paul Lara stating that it will ship as soon as they leave NAB...

I just can't seem to find that thread...

RomainR
04-05-2003, 10:41 AM
found it and realized that my french side of the brain mis translated what it really meant. Sorry for the scare.

To the question " When will it ship?"

Paul had answered "The day after we finish. ;) "

I must have been under the influence to have understood " The day after we finish NAB."

Go figure. Oh well, I am french after all.

Given the fact that Newtek loves to use the word "soon" and that I've not seen it mentioned regarding T[3]'s release I would not bet that it will be released in the coming weeks. I may be wrong but I'd say we're talking some months before they release it...remember when they showed T[2] and when it was released (NTSC...I'm not even taking when they released the PAL version). Let them take the time to make a stable product, its future depend on that.

I'd say that estimation is off, Rui.

Don't confuse the foundational work required to construct VT[2] with the implementation on top of that for VT[3]. We're well along on this latest build, as anyone who comes to our booth at NAB will see.

Please don't take this the wrong way but having being burnt before I'll believe it when I see it :D. To tell you the truth my above message was a form of bait to see if some Newteker would step in and say something about it...I'm glad you have ;)
Although it seems it will not contain everything I was looking for in Tedit, I'm really looking forward to T[3]'s release. Just let me know when I can use my credit card. Also looking forward to the live streams from NAB so I can have a taste of what you're cooking.

While EVERY "Video System" company has been guilty of overstating release dates, "Stuff Happens", IMHO, NewTek hasn't been guilty of this by comparison.

Each System has advantages over others in some way. But the Toaster has risen to a true Professional Level.
I'm so excited about it!!!

Like a fine wine, I hope it isn't released until it's ready!

And we know what happens when something is released when it ain't ready.

Steve,

Hey, I gotta try! ;)

Aaaahhhh...transfer modes, keyframable bezier masks (hell, gimme even static mask tools for starters), ability to lock layers, ability to group layers, ability to place comments on markers and do a search on them, ability to use an alias on audio files, ability to deactivate layers (audio AND video)...see? I'm not asking much:p

i hope soon i have been watching the stream and am drooling over the splines. also ive seen it crash twice on paul lara

Paul Lara

Yeah, but honestly some of that instability is due to the boxes overheating! There seems to be insufficient cooling in these machines.

This site is reporting a Q3 release

Ok.. At 5:05pm CST (3:05pm PST) I heard Paul Lara say that they're looking at a ship this Quarter. He implied that the programming team is in great shape and they're waiting on the documentation and sales teams to get ready :)

Uh Oh Paul ;)

HAHaha!! An old Imagine user! I hoped to never see that quote again. (But I did get a chuckle out of it this time - which was a good thing -- unlike when I use to laugh seeing it "back in the day.")
I would still LOVE to see Boris RED being implimented directly onto the timeline in TEdit. I know that you can output the files and bring those into Boris, but that really, REALLY screws up the work flow. I would like to apply a title and have it overlaid in other apply modes (like additive, screen, etc.) Would also like to use Boris titles, which I think look darn snazzy. Also being in true Z-space is a very cool and helpful thing.

Paul said several times over the last four day that VT3 would be shipping within 90 days....That puts the release early to mid June. Charles White reported that it would ship Q3. Well...if June slips at all that would be Q3!

We have been informed that T3 upgrade will ship right after NAB.
We are taking orders now.
Free delivery included

well once pre-orders are being taken . There needs to be a clear public statement from newtek on their website when this upgrade will be shipping and/or if there is an option to get early betas.

History shows we'll get the "clear public statement" the day it ships (when all the known bugs are squashed and the docs are finished) and only the beta testers get the "early [or late] betas".

SBowie

Scott is right, as usual ... "right after" is certainly not going to be in the next few weeks, lest anyone think that. Having said that, the pre-order still makes sense -- VT[3] won't be long in appearing (by MY definition) and our pre-order pricing on it is lower than low :)

RuiFeliciano
04-11-2003, 09:43 AM
Shipping right after NAB? yeah...sure it will :p

PS - "right after" to me means, say, within 2, even 3 weeks after NAB. I have no inside information but as I've mentioned before, I'll believe it when I see it :)

I'll take another crack at guessing the release date. How about April 15th. 2003 (closely following the end of NAB 2003) ... if you believe what DVWarehouse says on their web site. Take a look ... http://www.dvwarehouse.com/_msites/vt/

Yup, April 15th sounds good to me. Kinda looks like a psuedo-porn site to me........

"VT[3] is 'comming' ".........

Copied off the webpage that wtdedula provided a link to:

"Notice: This special will last until we ship Video Toaster [3] April 15, 2003. After shipping, the retail price of Video Toaster [3] will be $2,995. Current Video Toaster owners can upgrade for only $595.00."

They're also mentioning that the SX-8 costs $2000. Wasn't the price lowered to $1000?

wvp
04-11-2003, 11:50 AM
I don't think so - I think you are thinking of a post elsewhere where someone remarked about the sx-8 @ $1000, but this was what they wished it would be.
Actually, your dealer will probably be able to give you a little off the $2k price, or more if you are a school, etc.

OK, Romain, I'm going to let that slide because, after all, you're French ... and we know the French lean to a certain 'je ne sais quois' elegance of expression -- but you can get in trouble saying that in some bars :-p

Thanks Steve,

If in a bar, after a good squable I could probably end up behind bars, too.
