I am trying to find a compressor that works with mac, the standard Sorenson video quality is o.k.but very large files. Is there something out there like Divx for Mac.

Actually Floyd, your best solution isn't getting a CoDec, it's getting Discreet's Cleaner 6. If you've never used Cleaner (or it's prececessor, Media Cleaner) for video compression, you are missing out. Cleaner is designed to give the user a range of control from easy compression to hi-tech compression. Here's a screenshot of the codecs I have with Cleaner 5:

Best of all, if QT upgrades with new CoDecs, you get them automatically in cleaner.

Thank you, mlinde - I have heard of Distreetís cleaner but the price scared me away, I used the address you provided and downloaded a demo version, canít wait to try it out. Looks like I may have to bite the bullet, and spend some money.

Sorenson 3 is not bad for small sizes (works with QT5 & QT6). Play around with the settings. Take the quality setting down from maximum. Increase the number of keyframes to 100 or more.

MPEG-4 is better than DivX. However you need QT6 or higher to use MP4.

Quicktime Pro is worth purchasing. Not quite as good as Cleaner, but it does most things and costs a fraction of the price.

It's better to render from Lightwave in a lossless codec, such as 'Animation', then use QTpro to convert it to Sorenson3 or MP4. That way you can play with the settings until you have the right balance between quality and file size.
