I'm terrible with math. If I were to make a desert how big would it be? as in Lightwave speak. Should I set my land on 50 km or ?. I see the shot only viewing around a few miles in the real world.

Thanks everyone

You don't need anything that large in scale. The trick is to add some atmosphere to your scene. What I mean by this is add some fog (under volumetrics panel) that is the thickest you need it at the distance you want to hide the landscape actually disappearing. Does this make sense? That way you can have a smaller mesh to work with and the atmospheric Fog effect will look good too. You would want it to be a color that is approximately the same as your medium shadows on your landscape.
