I have a 1200 frame png sequence from my client -

If I either:
1) Drag the folder to the timeline (after setting the still prefs to 1 frame) or,
2) Open the folder and wait for all the thumbs to be generated then select all the stills and drag to the timeline,

Windows XP crashes after about a minute or two of drive activity.

I also tried dragging the files in 300 frame segments to the timeline (successfully) but when I tried to render the entire 1200 as an RTV - crash.

If I import the stills into After FX and render out to an RTV there - all is good.

Any ideas?

Your machine is fine. ...
Well as fine as not working can be... ;)

I have the same trouble with any folders and that many stills.
Locks/crashes/brings VT3 and windows to its knees.

Trying both ways does the same thing you describe.
I just think the Toaster is choking on that many pics loading into RAM.

You can also use aura to convrt of course. Just uncheck preload and select the first pic in the folder to import. It will import the rest as a sequence. then resave.

Thanks for the confirm...
Of course, this does not bode well for those looking at VT for the widely hearlded Animators edition... ;)

Import them into Aura then save out as .rtv
