thx in adnvance.

it would work better i think if it were just an image mapped on to a subdivided poly. but it has to be a fairly dense mesh to look good.

i'm attaching an example of a piece of cloth that i animated for experimentation purposes... it is just a very subdivided mesh with some dynamics added to it.

Check your models setting in the subpatch section; should be set to "Last". That's the problem I see.

It makes no difference if it's mapped, it still has to have the geometry and he has that.

Actually today(12am,31st August) is my country independent's day!! I'm so proud of Malaysia (http://allmalaysia.info/). This CG flag was my sudden idea, sort of last minute way to show my love to my country.

Congrat! I know only a little about your country. Is there a video called "Friday in Malaysia", made in LW, but never finished?!

Maybe I remember this video also, it was great stuff, a village in a jungle,

Glad to here that you love your country and congratulation to independent`s day,

but beside this its much more easy to use an image map of a flag instead of creating geometry.

But isn't it the same thing? You have to have the geometry for it to be smooth.

I guess I say this because when I made a flag I ended up doing the stripes and stars as geometry for the purposes of being able to have a nice up close shot.

Glad to see you got it sored out, Hydrowire.

I think a hires image is easier do create/modify and does it way better than geometry (if u use other channels than color, its halfway done too)

My opinion ;)

Agreed.

If easier is the goal, maps will work for most every situation.

If realism and a close-up are what is desired, or needed, then geometry is the most viable choice. One can also apply a map to this type of setup as well for even more visual correctness.
Bump maps work well for many things but I've grown accustomed to giving things an extra row or two of polys to get the look that bump maps can't give you.

yes yes you are right, caesar! here's the link for downloading the movie: A Malaysian Friday (http://www.pocketmovies.net/detail_96.html).

This CG Movie greatly inspired me and i think is because this i started Lightwave seriously!! I'm so proud of the author-"Tajino". And of course he's a Malaysian too!

thx for all the replies, enjoy the shot!

Yeah, sometimes we need that extra detail!

hydrowire : thx for the video link, I viewed just a wip of that time ago.
