quick paintjob and lighting, no actual texture maps yet.

a different angle

one more

and here's a wire overlay:

Very cool Philip nice job :)

How did you do that wire overlay?

08-22-2004, 03:15 PM
Mmmmmm yummy :)

08-22-2004, 03:32 PM

Imatk: I rendered a version as white wireframe without lights and environment, and just layered that on top of the image in photoshop.

That is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Definitly Photorealistic. Amazing, I sure hope I get to your level some day.

great work! Can you please give the setting to the body surface of the car? :) nice hdri usage, i found it to be pritty difficult to find a nice hdri for reflection on the car, can you say something about yours, and how did you get that nice reflection?

08-23-2004, 03:13 AM
i like it!

08-23-2004, 03:45 AM
a black car paint surface is pretty easy actually...
the most important thing would be the gradient in the reflection channel to fake the fresnel effect.

see attached surface preset :D

the HDRI is beach_probe, I found that one works very well with most cars; pretty even light distribution and nice sky reflections. Play with your image world settings and rotate it until you are satisfied with the reflections as shown in the surface editor. Also don't set the brightness too high; I had it at 30% or something...

tnx so much for the surface, it is so simple, cool!
>the HDRI is beach_probe
i don't wan't to strech it, but would you be so kind to post the HDRI :):)

look in your LightWave directory under Images\HDR

I'm not into car modelling myself but I have to say that this is an awesome render.

I'm also enjoying going through the free tuts on SimplyLightwave at the moment - very high quality stuff!

Ich war in Frankfurt letztem Wochenende - ein schone stadt!

08-23-2004, 02:42 PM
good modelling. PERFECT

08-24-2004, 07:37 AM
That is awesome. It looks real.

08-24-2004, 09:38 AM
Nice :) ver ynice philip, I see you finally finsihed that McLaren Tutorial ;). What about interior :)?

08-24-2004, 04:22 PM
excellent render, though, this might just be me, it seems as if its a minature, you may have meant it to been but for some reason to me it just seems really small....

maybe coz the tiles of the floor are kind of unusual, one may see them as pritty big, making the car small.

08-26-2004, 05:54 PM
Yeah I tried to render out a wireframe before by just selecting edges and rendering, but it doesn't give me that nice nurbed mesh like you have, it shows the triangulated polys.

What version of LW are you using? And when you say rendered a wireframe exactly how did you do it by selecting edges in the object or what?

Thanks man :)

08-26-2004, 06:01 PM
Imatk: well, you have to freeze the mesh in modeler :D We have a free tute on doing a nice wireframe render of this model on simplyLightWave...

Lewis: thanks =) interior will come as well, of course :P

Adrian: oh! I hope you also did a little pub-touring in "Sachsenhausen"? Too bad that's been last week; we could have met up for a pint or two :D

08-27-2004, 01:38 AM
Wow! That looks sweet. Very realistic renders too. :D
I'm still waiting for that rendering tutorial. ;)
Keep up the really awesome job.

One question, is that a scene, or just a flat plane with a ground texture, and then used HDRI?
Not sure if that was already asked, because it's too late and I'm too lazy to read it all

08-27-2004, 11:10 AM

Yes we went to a cocktail bar nearby but can't remember what it was called. But I think my friend lives in Sachsenhausen... or something like that. Maybe next time I'm in your neck of the woods we could meet up and maybe I can pay you for a Lightwave lesson!!!

But seriously, you do awesome work...

08-27-2004, 01:31 PM
As always you've made another really good model and cool renders.

Thanks all around Phillip.

I'd been really tempted before but now I simply have to get the tut.

09-07-2004, 01:57 PM
haha ! i have something for you :) i dont know if you remember but i've modelled this car before you and posted it on your forum SL(i made the F1 LM). I'm in love with this car...and i must tell you the modelling is very good. The critique is: the hdr reflects the light source(sun) from the wrong way...i mean look at the shadow...the sun is on the same side ;) i hope i'm not rude...my english is not as good as i wish :)

09-07-2004, 02:27 PM
**** Man! that one phat model, gives me something to aspire to, aye?
