View Full Version : Create an object using alpha like Bryce Terrain?

In Bryce, using the terrain editor, you can create an object using a black and white image to determine elevation. How do you do this in Modeler? I am trying to re-create a Mayan Pyramid that my client created in Bryce and I've never used this method for modeling. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Traditionally, you'd do this in Layout by applying a displacement map (your bryce-style elevation map), tweak the parameters and then 'Save Transformed' (or not, depending if you want to tweak it further).

However, you can also do the same thing in Modeler using Weight Maps and the Move tool. Create your subdivided plane object; create a weight map for the object; select Textured Point Map from the Map tab, use the Texture controls to map and position your image; use the move tool with Weight Map as falloff in the numeric requester. Not as fancy as Bryce (I love that spinning terrain map editor) but does exactly the same thing....
