im using LW 7.5c and have gone through the New Riders Inside LightWave 7 book's tutorial on setting up a rigid IK system on a robotic arm. ive made my own creations using the same techniques in the tutorial but now id like to animate a similar robotic arm picking up objects, carrying them through the air, manuvering etc... and then placing them in a different location.

is there any way i could temporarily parent an object to the hand of the robotic arm while it is being carried, or something along those lines? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

The easiest way to do this is to have a cloned object allready parented to the arm or hand in the position that you need it. The moment the robot picks it up you disolve out that object and instantly disolve in the cloned object so when he walks around with it it looks like the same object but in reality it is not.

And if he needs to let go of it then you have a different shot that follows the same principles you just disolve out the cloned parented object while disolving in the falling object.

do you mean dissolve the objects as in using transperancy?

No. As in dissolve from the object properties.
