say you have a piece of metal with anisotrophic properties in a scene with caustics enabled..

would that metal throw more caustic highlights than it would if it had no aniso properties?...and therefore require potentially *many* more calculations?

In theory it would even cast less caustics because of the interference. This would "exterminate" a part of the light energy. In practice you wouldn't be able to do it in LW because

a) LW's caustics are far to crude for this.

b) Lw's caustics ignore shaders (if you were thinking of using BDRF)
