Hey all,

Ok ive decided to build a new machine and want it geared for use with LW and also gaming, but its been so long since ive built a machine (in computer time) that i dont know where to begin but i was thinking of the following:

AMD 64Bit Chip
MSI K8 Neo Motherboard
Corsair XMS 1Gig Mem
2x120gb 10000rpm SATA drives
2x19 inch TFT monitors

DVD writer etc.....

Now I currently have a 3Dlabs WildcatVP 560 - think ill be able to sacrifice this for say the latest Nvidia or ATI and get much better performace and functionality? or do i need to get a graphics card gears towards 3d design again?

Ohh forgot to add... Thinking of another Lian Li case, but i want something that will be very quiet.. any ideas?

I'm sorry I cannot help, It's been a while since I build a system myself so I don't know any of the new components too well either.

One thing I agree on, though... something quitet. Currently I have AMD 1800 with big noisy fan attached to it + 4 or 5 other fans for other components. This thing is like a small airplane under my desk. I'd be glad to hear any ideas too.

I would go with an Nvidia card as I have found them reliable with LW. There have been probs with some ATI cards.

For rendering I am using the Athlon 64 3200. It renders over two times faster than my other computer which is an AMD Athlon 2200 . So a 4 day animation render is now down to less than 2 days.

Spartan,
Go on down to "VT-HARDWARE" and talk to DJLITHIUM. He's built more than one AMD64 box and is fast becoing the resident AMD guru. I'm sure what he knows will apply to LW as well as VT.

Guru.
Rather odd term don't you think.

Well for cooling, if you want to get dead serious about it, check out the rack cases or in the least the cooling options from www.koolance.com Their 4U rack kicks ***. I am dying to snag one:)
