View Full Version : My balls are too bouncy (hard fx problem)

I've been trying to recreate (sort of but different) this Dynamics animation:
http://www.spinquad.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=29893#post29893

However my marbles bounce too much. They are much more like rubber bouncy balls. :(

Any advice?

Setting the bounce in the collision fx to %100 instead of %200 helped but setting under that makes them not detect collision as much.
Setting more weight in hard fxc doesn't seem to have any effects.

Thanks for any help,
Carbon

ROTFL :D

...sorry, can't help you with the dynamics though ;)

Cheers,

Actually, that is where you need to change it and that's about the only way you will get it to do what you want. I have a ball down the ramp anim that has the collision object at 25% and it hits the object everytime. This should not affect the collision probability. If so, turn up the resolution to calculate and it should work down to 1%. A thud setting.

Sure hope you get control over those balls.

Hee hee, thanks anyway Lightwolf. :)

Here's what I mean:
http://www.deltatraining.com/MarbleTest.mov

Look how much the bounce off each other and I get this jittering that i don't want.

:(

****, still can't seem to get control of my balls (hee hee)

I changed the "bounce" amount from %100 to %25 in collision fx for the balls and the tube object. Now they "thud" more but intersect sometimes and I get some balls not obeying the collision object.

check it out:

Any other help or ideas on what to do with my balls?

Is each ball an object or are those particles? Makes a diff.

Objects (32 ct.), not particles.
Should I do it as particles? why does it make a difference?

Thanks for your help btw. :)

Hey, my balls are too bouncy, too!

Man, I'm glad to find out it's not just me. ;)

my balls are large, dense and heavy... they're like two lead bowling balls - perhaps gold - no lead... lead. that sounds more butch.

...

depleted uranium?

no... lead. lead.

not quite frightening. but VERY intimidating. make no mistake.

lead balls.

Imagine watching a guy with lead balls playing volleyball.... jump-ouch, jump-ouch, jump-ouch.:D

What do you call a dog with steel balls and no back legs?

<drum roll>

SPARKY!

Try to use balls with a larger polygon count...wayyyy larger.

Or if you're using nurbed objects, make sure they're set to freeze before the displacement...might help.

I haven't had any issues performing these tricks since my balls are fine...but you do need to play with em a little to get em to do what you want em to. Tweak, I mean. LOL.

One of the most off-the-wall Thread in Forums' history! :D

Really funny! ;)

Easy fix: just check the 'Virtual Jockstrap' option in the Dynamics tab :D

I'm feeling really frustrated with my balls right now. My balls are definately not working like I'd like them too.

lwaddict,
Thanks for trying to give me a hand with my balls. Unfortunately increasing the poly count didn't help at all. I subDed (at x2) and then froze my balls! Despite this effort my balls are still behaving in same way.

setting bind/bounce lower that 75% makes them not detect collision on each other despite the 100% collision probability.
In short, my balls are mushing together instead of lightly bouncing off each other. Imagine my disappointment. :(

Let me know if anyone else has an idea of how I can get my balls to behave more appropriately.

Carbon

P.S. please stop joking about my balls. This is getting embarassing. :p

I tried playing with my own set of balls to see if I can help but I just wore myself out working on it last night without getting the dynamic action that I wanted. Then I realized my problem is that I set it up with Soft FX when it should have been Hard. duh!

I think I'll just call my friends over to help me with my balls while I work on other areas that need attention. I'm so lucky to have twins that I can fall back on in times of need.

LOL Tokyo!

"but seriously folks" I'd love some actual help/advice though the jokes do help alleviate the pain of dealing with LW.

In order to alleviate the pain with your balls in LW you may need to take a healthy dose of Penecillin.

up the friction factor. That usually solves it for me. After that any value on bounce works.
