Nice. What is it? A light sabre? I'm so pissed at Lucas right now for the last two star wars that I'm trying to forget.

BTW, how did you do the diamond grip on the first one? Looks good.

Great work btw. But here's the bit that I don't get. Star wars is supposedly set in a "distant gallaxy, a long time ago, far far away". But the Light Sabre object looks very modern, like some unknown object you might find in a hardware shop, part of a shower fitting or something like that. Especially the phillips-head screw on the side and the rubber hand-grib. All of the bits and pieces that have gone into it's construction look very Earthly, not like something created in an Alien world. What you've done looks great, but I'm just struck by that thought as I look at the work.

We all know that Jedis use Flathead screwdrivers. Nice realistic renders.

aaah now you see this is something I have thought about myself at one point or another but when you really think about it they have really got most bases covered..

the thing to bear in mind first of all is that most of the SW universe is humanoid and possesses primarily 3 or more manipulative digits and some sort of oppressive digit too..

as far as humanoid type life is concerned there are certain things that any society alien or earthlike would be almost certain to develop

one of them being the wheel - or wheeled transport

another being the blade or some "form" of a blade for cutting

another would more than likely be the fishing hook

yet another would be something akin to a fork for eating but that isn't certain (chopsticks for example)

and yet another being a fastener - more than highly likely to be a threaded device...

the main difference would be how the fastener is turned and by what method to fasciliatate it's tightening..

so if you look very closely at my screw I took this into account and although it "looks" like a philips head it in fact is nothing like it - it's a very specialised recess head where I assumed they would use the same principles but a different method of employing them :)

and of course the bits that look like kitchen faucet handles are in fact kitchen fauicet handles cos that's what they used to make them ;)

only in the latter films have the prop department actually machined them

ep 4's obi wan was made from:

a kitchen faucet handle
a ww2 british hand grenade
a gas burner outlet

and a few other little things

not to mention Darth's was a chopped up flashgun handle :)

And you know what I think?

I think some people are WAY over thinking this...;)

LOL, yeah I guess you're right. Plus you also have "artistic license" to do whatever works best. I also like the look of allen-head bolts. I think that's what they're called. The ones that use an Allen Key to tighten.

BTW I wonder what would happen if you messed about with one of these things. Opened it up to see how it works :)

I like the idea of a jedi tool belt with different screwdrivers for different galaxies...you know, in case you had to borrow a buddy's sabre from the Hoth system and you had to replace the batteries.

Like the Aztecs, then?

Sorry, I agree with you in principle, but I couldn`t resist. Sweeping statements are just begging to be challenged :)

Nice modelling, btw.

I think the trusty Katana, traditionally has a couple of Phillips head screws holding the blade in place. :)

Sorry I couldn't resist.

I wonder if they had ATM machines in other Galaxies. It could be argued that humanoid ... :D

Okay sorry sorry sorry I'll behave now. Please feel free to ignore my silly comments.
