View Full Version : Importing .3DS files with UV maps

Hi All,
anyone got any tips on importing .3DS files?

I got some bargain CD's with loads of models in this format, but when I load them up it loooks like the UV's are not being used at all correctly. (Thoough it's certainly trying to use them).

I'm using version 7.5 LW. (Would the B version help?)

They also have a slightly crumpled look, but I suspect I can fix that with carefull attention to smoothing angles.

If anyone else in the UK is interested it was 20 for 500 models, apparently by deespona, from the PC Bookshop stores. Very strong on transport models.

All clues, hints etc very gratefully received!

i am using PolyTrans 2.2 to convert .3ds files and .max files to lightwave 7.5. Polytrans2.2 converts all the models from .3ds and .max format to lightwave7.5 files complete with UV maps

I'm aware of polytrans, but as an amateur it's outside my budget unfortunately. :(

The thing is that LW is trying to import it with UV's anyway, but it's not working properly. I was wondering if I had missed anything obvious to get it working...

The models i importet always had correct UVs...6.5b that only is :D

However all get slammed into one UV map called "Imported3DS_UVs"

Intriguing... Maybe I need to fire up the old version, and give that a go...
