Im having a problem with a sata raid0 array on a 3ware sata controller, and four 160 gb seagate sata HDs.

The disk performs sometimes a spin down. The velocity changes from 180 mb/s to 60/40 or for sometimes even smaller rates.

Ive tried almost everything: Change sata controller, change cables, tried on diferent types of computers (AMD, P4, XEON).

If anybody know any useful issue, please post.

Thanks.

Check your hard drives..... sounds like one (or more) going bad.

Also check your power settings to be sure there isn't some power saver mode enabled.

sata arrays are fast because of a blazing burst transfer speed, not suitable in all instances for smooth continuous data rates required by uncompressed video data streams. SCSI is the best and the only type of HD NewTek recommends for VT3.
But I'm no expert on the topic, so... YMMV.

But for mission critical performance, only read or only write, not both.

Like don't defrag the video drive and also play that 2 hour uncompressed VTEdit project out live to your stadium broadcast audience.
