I checked the price on Leighs Texture book a couple of Days ago with DYMOCKS BOOKS.
AUS$99
But the have a 20% off computer books at the moment and even though they have to order it through they said they would still give the discount. Take about ten days to get it.

I also bought "Inside LW7" with them last year - Simular deal

I just walked into the local Dymocks store in Geelong and asked.

I'd advise against buying books from Dymocks or local Australian bookshops. I buy online and even with the transportation costs it still works out a lot cheeper.

riki: how much does it generally cost for custom etc and what do you have to do to get it through customs?

I read an article a few year ago in the Sydney Morning Herald which said that you could buy books online from overseas companys like Amazon, up to AUS$200 per shipment without paying any import duty. I'm not sure if that figure is still correct, but I've never had to pay customs or deal with them.

I choose the cheapest delivery option from Amazon which takes about 2 weeks. And they get deliverred to my door by Australian Post. Here's some idea of what I've paid recently for LW Books, the prices are as shown on my Visa card statement (in Australian Dollars) and included shipping. Of course these prices may change depending on the exchange rate. The Australian dollar has been quite strong lately, which is great when buying stuff online, plugins etc, which I've also been buying lately.

Lightwave 3D 8 Texturing - Leigh Van der Bly (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1556222858/suture/no-sim/)
AUS$78.77

LightWave 3D 8: 1001 Tips & Tricks - Wes, Steve Warner (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1556220901/suture/no-sim/)
AUS$66.81

Lightwave 8 3D Lighting - Nicholas Boughen (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1556220944/suture/no-sim/)
AUS$64.29

Lightwave 8 Killer Tips - Dan Ablan, Randy Sharp (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735713715/suture/no-sim/)
AUS$51.81

Inside LW 8 - Dan Alban (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735713685/suture/no-sim/)
AUS$57.65

I'm still waiting on the Character Animation book. I don't actually have the Dymocks prices here to compare. But I certain that it works out cheeper for books. DVDs are a different story though.

Here's a couple of other books worth checking out.

Essential Lightwave 3D 8 - Timothy Albee (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1556220820/suture/no-sim/)

CGI Filmmaking: The Creation of Ghost Warrior - Timothy Albee (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1556222270/suture/no-sim/)
