ben digging around google and forums to search for a solution to this problem, MAX has an SMD exporter for Half-Life, but they didnt care to do somthing for the other 3D programs :(

i hope they consider the Lightwave community for Half-life 2, they already promoted Xsi for the next game, really disapointed they didnt though about making and export ver for Lightwave

Usually developers only include export tools for the software that they use in production themselves. Anything after that is usually done by the user community, because it would involve extra expense on the developer's part (software licenses, learning time for artists/coders to incorporate the program into the export pipeline, and actually writing plugins and tools).

This is usually a resource expense that most devs can't afford, or simply aren't interested in. Learning a new tool and sdk just so you could provide an extra export path for a few mod makers just isn't worth it.

It sucks yes, but the only way to fix it is to have LW being used by more companies making games. This is unlikely at the moment, since most companies already have heavy investments in other software that actually provides more tools specifically aimed at game developers.
