Has anyone ever heard of CD rot

I found a CD with a hole in it. So I told my buddy at work about it. That evening as he was driving home, he heard on CBC radio something about CD rot. What this is, is the top layer of the CD degrades allowing air to pass through it and causes the inside of the CD to rot.

After transferring something like 160 CD disks to 20 DVD disks, I have found some of them were suffering from CD rot. Here's a link to some web's site that explains this phenomenon.

CNN,com CDs and DVDs are not immortal (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/ptech/05/06/disc.rot.ap/)

Information about "CD ROT" (http://www.mv.com/ipusers/richbreton/m/files/cd_rot.htm)

Foetusized's Article on CD Rot (http://foetusized.org/cdrot.html)

After experiencing this myself. I advise everybody to hold up their CD's to the light to see if there are holes in them. And check the top surface of the CD's for air bubbles before using them.

fitting that the guy looks like jesus :D

I like the part that says the TOP of the CD is the most fragile - using a ball-point pen could ruin it, THANKS FOR TELLING US, like, 20 years later! sheesh!
