View Full Version : Single Model, Multiple Surfaces in Layout

I have a simple model of a ball.

I want to have a red one, a green one and a blue one.

I do not want to go back into modeler and make different versions of the ball.

Is there some way INSIDE modeler to have multiple instances of a single model all with different surfaces?

haha, I had that question just yesterday, thought about posting it, but I guess I dont have to.

If anyone knows the answer to this I'd be very interested in knowing.

HDInstance has the ability to create instances and tint them with different colors.

Inside Layout:

-load "ball.lwo"
-rename surface "red"
-save object "redball.lwo"
-rename surface "green"
-save object "greenball.lwo"
-rename surface "blue"
-save object "blueball.lwo"
-load "redball.lwo" and "greenball.lwo"

trick, that will do, but this is almost the same (to me at least) as actually creating three different versions of the ball inside of the modeler. Almost.. because modeler is not opened. However, three different versions are created.

Many people asked about instances in LW. Not possible as of now with vanilla LW. HDinstance resolves the instances problem to some degree. I never used it but I think I've read somewhere it has some limitations.

HDInstance doesn't render shaders and doesn't work with shadow maps. It's also slower at rendering than Lightwave. It's a cool plugin none the less.
