I have lately been using Marvin's amazing normalmap utility in Modeler:

There is an option for exporting displacement maps. Has anyone else managed to successfully export a displacement map? Normal maps export great, but I have not had any luck with exporting displacement maps. It seems to just be saving off a black image.

I am trying to get this to work with with Lynx's displacement deformer and would prefer to stay in Lightwave.

I seem to recall that this feature is not yet implemented properly and thus does not work (it's documented somewhere on Marvin's site). Something with converting normal vectors to proper grey levels for displacement, I think. Don't know if Marvin has/ will ever provide a new version with this feature.

I've gotten it to work fine. What are you viewing them in? The displacement map (from modeler at least) gets saved as a floating point format, so if you view it in photoshop it'll look messed up. Apply it as a bump map to your object and bump up the bump value to 10000% or so and it should look fine ....

I was viewing it in Lightwave. I'll try again tomorrow. Thank you gentlemen.
