View Full Version : Memory management by LW

Does anyone have any information to share about the way LW manages the available memory?
I have a very large project to render, and despite operating on a fairly decent machine (double Pentium 4 Xeon with 2Gb RAM plus 2 Gb swap file) I get all sorts of messages that always start with "not enough memoty to...".
Scene statistics:
Objects: 1339
Polygons: 3 212 462
Free Memory: 149.1 M (RAM) + 2042.8 M (page file)

Bottom line is, my project doesn't render.
Any suggestions?

do a search on these forums, lots of people had/have the same problem.
3 millions is fine for your amount of memory.. depending on :
how much space are your textures taking ?
and which resolution are trying to render ?
any spot lights with high shadow map size ?
which message do you have, not enough memory to render segment buffer or frame buffer?

newtek needs to optimize how it manages memory for heavy renders, I hope they will in LW 9 (or 8.5 ?!)
