I have a metal texture map loaded into the color node, and want to get a little relief, so I "copy current layer" from the color channel, and past that layer into bump (it's the only bump layer)

the color channel texture seems to be observing the mapping correctly, but the bump channel looks stretched wildly along the y-axis.!

if you copy a layer from the color channel, and paste that same layer into the bump channel, shouldn't you end up with a bump effect that coincides (aligns with) with the color channel?

ya you should - did you check all your settings and try it again?

yes. checked and re-checked.

starting afresh seemed to work, but lots of confusion and head scratching before then!

do experienced users find that when something doesn't work the way it ought to, that scraping and starting again is the only fix?

almost like the program forgets what it's supposed to do.

it's usually just me - or it's something that just does not work, a bug
