View Full Version : holes popping up in objects in layout on certain angles

I've been hand-modelling the bevel letter by letter on a logo, so the geometry is pretty good, but in Layout these "holes" keep popping up on them, both in open GL and in the renders. they seem to be related to the camera angle- one angle will have a hole, then i rotate around and it will dissapear. It doesn't seem to be a grid size thing as the holes are not the closest thing to the camera.

I've tried redoing the geometry, changing smoothing angles and camera zoom, nothing works-I just can't figure it out! I've never come across this before.

It's because your poly is non-planar. You can select all non-planar polys using the statistics window while in poly select mode, and then triple them by pressing shift-t. This will give you some tri-polys which are always planar and should render fine. Modeler triples all polys before display which is why they don't cause a problem there, but in layout it does things differently so you see the gaps as you rotate the camera around.
