Okay so there's this website that most probably know about, Simply3D World (http://www.simply3dworld.com).

It has sub-sites for Lightwave, Maya, 3DS Max and even Photoshop. Every month, Simply3D World has a Challenge contest.
Last month's contest was to create a pirate. Lightwave users swept the categories, much to the chagrin of the Maya users.

It also has a forum and an IRC chat channel

(irc.simply3dworld.com, channel #simply3dworld). This chat channel is dominated by Maya users. I've been hanging out there lately, and while there are a couple other LW users, it's kind of annoying watching, not only most of the talk be about Maya, but it being *presumed* that one knows Maya. I was even told by a Maya user, when I told someone I couldn't help with a problem because I don't know Maya, that if I spent more time with the Maya manual and less on IRC, I might know more about Maya!

So if anyone is interested, drop in to the simply3d irc channel and help me take it over ;) You can also get there from the simply3d world forums (it provides an interface).

Oh, while I'm at it, I've started up a bulletin board system on my own website. Not much traffic yet, but I hope to change that.
