Hey people!

After some time here's another project I finished recently. A month of work and here's the result.

Was this a pre-viz to sell the development?

My goodness, that's a lot of polygons? What kind of render network did you have? How long was the final render?

Did you model the whole thing?

Yes it's a previz for investors...

Sure you can buy a house, if you are willing to spend about 1000€ per sqm that is :)

Yup modeled everything from scratch (except some of the cars, which I got before and just had to reduce the number of polys).

There's about 2.100.000 polys in the scene.

Final render was 5000 frames long and it rendered 6 days on 6 computers 4PCs and 2 notebooks (the client let me use his two notebooks).

Wow!. That's impressive in a way that the still image just doesn't do justice. The scale of the piece is incredible. Good job!

Hey Jure, this is a really good job ! nice slow camera moves.. now you said 2,1 million polys... I thought more of 2,1 billions polys... see, I cant model low poly, that's my problem, I always want to put more... he he... did you model the trees and boats ? woaw, very impressive... did U use some HD_Instance or something similar... ? Could U post a couple of frames in Wwireframe mode... ? did U render F_Prime or LW ? aahhh so many questions...!

one little thing I've notice is that the fresnel effect is bit strong on some windows, sometimes they look a bit too black when camera is facing... but that's about it.... and even that is not a big deal here...

Again, really good job !:D ;)

Hey all, thanks for your comments.

Here are two screenshots of a scene, it's a mess I know ;)


Yes I modeled all the boats from scratch, maybe I put them up on turbosquid or something since there's no boats there yet.
For the trees I used 3 crossed polys with a clipmap.
For cloning objects I used a few plugs I found on flay - Loco, Layout Clone and Family Clone all of which were very useful.

I did indeed intend at first to render it out with FPrime, but when I started adding boats, and cars FPrime came down to a crawl because I ran out of RAM (I have 1GB of RAM in my system). I did use FPrime for surfacing though.

To keep the rendertimes reasanoble I used no raytracing at all, I used hypersmooth for all the reflections instead. Shadows are shadowmapped with a shadow map size of 6000px. I should have used bigger, but again RAM was the issue, so I couldn't go any higher than that.

A bit of color correction, motion blur and titles were done in DFX+.

That was a great animation for a proposed development. I can't believe it only took you one month, I'd ask for three at least for the same job :rolleyes: . Well done on a job well done. 5000 frames....wow...even with those extra machines thats a lot to get through, what sort of render times did you have per frame/render size ? 5 stars from me :)

Thanks Rhino, yes it was a lot of work for one month so I just had to work a few extra hours. I wouldn't want to work like this every month, because it was just too much working.

Average render time per frame was around 10 minutes or so...

Very well done.
The trees look remarkably well for clip maps.
First class work - especially for the time it took.

woaw again hats off Jure, you worked like a dog for a month, now take a break ....

Boats and trees are very nice... low polys, medium ?

boats are all low poly around 500 polys or so. I first modeled them a bit higher (1500polys) but had to reduce it after to opzimize render times.

Wow, that is just amazing! :eek: :eek:
I didn't know you could render animations with F-Prime, I thought it just rendered out each frame as a picture... Is there a way to render it as a movie file? :confused:

You probably mean FPrime can't render out to animaton file directly right?
Well I never render out to animation file even if I render with LW renderer. I always output frames as image sequence and composite them togather in external program (DFX+). That allows you to only re-render certain frames when if something is wrong. Even if you have no external application to put all the images into one movie file you can still do it in LW. Just load the image sequence in LW's image editor and put it as a background and then render whole scene out as movie.
