Hello all,

Just looking for tips for making a neon sign.
My sign will say: OPEN
Are there rounded bevels in this program?
Can I perhaps use a circle extruded on a path nor spline?
I need some kind of technique for making these "tubular" letters.
Then I need a technique in the surface module for creating the actual light that eminates from the sign and the letters. I'm guessing a glow of some sort.
Anyway, I sure would appreciate any help I could get.
Between, shooting schedules, editing schedules, and doing grip work, I'm having a hard time getting the time for really diving into this program. So, please pardon my ignorance if the questions I post are goofy! LOL

Thanks,
Art

What you want is called "Rail Extrude." Not sure what page it is in the manual, but you can make paths and then extrude your shape (probably a circle) along it to get the neon effect.

If you have to get close to the sign, eto's method is the way to go.

However, if the sign is a bit away from the camera, take a look at a neon sign (or a photo of one).

You can get away with simple text, slightly extruded. Give it a neon color, boost the Luminance, and maybe a bit of Glow. Use a well placed light or two casting the neon light on the surrounding surfaces.

Use the same Envelopes on the Luminance and lights to ramp them up and down.

Check out these two threads to see how I would do it.
