Might be RAM - how long did you leave it for? It took a minute or so on my 2Gb dual Xeon to work out all the OpenGL textures - it's a pretty heavy scene. Works fine once it's finished dozing though - even with FPrime :)

I get the same thing, gets to about 20% loaded then the screen goes grey (Win98SE 1GB RAM FX5200 card).
Leave it long enough and it does come back.
As Aegis said, takes a while. Set the scene to show only wireframe and turned off OGL textures, loaded in about 5 seconds. If you set your OGL textures to 64X64, it will still load a damn sight faster. ;)

Not having any problems here with scene loading, but it sure displays differently from 7.5 to 8. Seems to render the same. Looks like the Open GL implementation has changed considerably. Can anyone else verify this?

Thanks

Check your OpenGL settings in 8.0. Specifically, check the number of GL lights that are used.

Max OpenGL Lights is set to 8, just as in 7.5. I'm assuming it has to be LW related, because these scenes are loaded from the LW8 content on the same machine.

Thanks

General tip -

When things like scene loading, Motion Designer, etc. seem to hang the machine don't panic.

Just go to the 'quick start' bar (on PC's) then right click on it and open Task Manager.

Click on 'Applications' - it'll probably show 'not running'. Then click on 'Performance' or 'cpu usage'.

This seems to jump start LW again as clicking on 'Performance' first will show the cpu is idling.

Don't lnow if this is a quirk of Windoze or LW but it works.

As for the agyption scene -

Once the scene load is jump started you can go to memory useage and watch the the memory allocation rise to around 400k.

The problem with both scenes like this and intense MD calculations seems to be nainly amount of ram - although cpu speed will naturally have an effect as will graphics card speed and it's on-boatd memory.
