View Full Version : Why are these collisions so smelly? (Animation)

Hello,

I am trying to get some good clothing effects working in Lightwave 8. Here is an example scene of a shirt on a hangar. Why doesn't collision work?

(animation deleted, there's another link down a few msgs.)

Oh swell.

So will this be an 8.1 thing?

Is there a reason why collision thickness can be set for the cloth object AND The collision object? Should they both be the same number?

Im probably wrong cause im still using 7.5 but the collision in 7.5 is point based(motion desighner).so you should make the mesh of the hanger have allot of polys and if possible try and line the points of the shirt up with the hanger as best as posible.but like i said im probably wrong as I dont have 8 yet so im not sure how different the cloth dynamics are?:)

I did some more tweaking, and sliced up the hangar (even before I saw Jean-Paul's message). The biggest factor was upping the collision radius... Seems much better now.. May be ready to try on my character!

I dunno! I dont WORK for Newtek!? ;)

thickness can be tweaked like a forcefield around the object, and is used when you need a little extra cushion away from the polygons...so you can set a different thickness for the collision or the cloth.

hmm, thats strange because I tried to tweak (add more polygons and up the collision thickness) the Zombie scene and it still didnt work!

I saved the collision and cloth settings from this scene, and adapted them for my character scene, and.. well, it's ugly. Polygons flying everywhere.

Same scale, amount of polys?
Spring effects change with # of polys.

No, the character is much more poly-dense.

I realized the scale was different too, and when I adjusted it, I got a "ClothFX Scan Error" message.

This is what I got:

Boom! (http://www.Carm3D.net/Boom.MOV)

I don't know why my character shows up twice. It's only in there once.

I d-loaded the NAB vid#2 with Deuce, and I thought I heard him say he was using soft body instead of cloth effects for that. Maybe I'm mistaken, I'll have to look at that again.

Where did you find those NAB-videos?
