Colored Translucency option that lets you choose the translucent color, sounds simple enough to implement right? and maybe an option on the falloff of it, like what glossiness is to specular:confused: :D

Why don't you use gradients? It always works for me and with LW7.5b you get even falloff (even though it still is no real SSS).

gradients will not give you a choice of color in the translucency channel, they can give you a falloff, but im thinking something more of a softener, blur-er ....like a blur translucency option, not a gradient

I see. This would mean real SSS then.

yeah, but not specifically for sss, it can be used for other lighting effects, but im sure it would be good for sss;)

Worley's Gaffer has this feature, however I am not certain how compatible is with the current LW.

g2 (gaffer 2) does not have this feature,

Let me give you an example, you have a translucent thin rectangle with a light behind it, and a sphere between the light and the thin rectangle....the sphere will create sharp edges on the thin rectangles translucent area.

I want to be able to blur the translucency....and give it any specific color I want;)

you mean chromatic dispersion?

if thats what is needed to be able to have controll over the edges softness, blur of translucency then yes

lightwave lets you blur transparency

That would be great. Taron already coded (for himself) a volumetric translucency plugin, but only simulating sss effect, wich means itīs super fast, and really, for the images he posted on his site, you canīt tell the diference.

WE WANT SUBSURFACE SCATTERING (OR THE ESSENCE OF IT) ON STEROIDS!!!

g2 is a great additions, Ive used it for work, but I am not specifically talking about sss, therers more applications to translucency than sss. while g2 does let you add color to the translucency, it does not blur edges/casted light of the translucency...and I dont think one should have to buy g2 just to be able to add color to translucency...plus it only lets you color as a solid, if it was a lw feature you could use colored gradients and textures within the channel
